Charlene Lewis is the primary trainer and operator of Leona Valley Riding Center. Charlene is a second generation trainer as her mother, Tammy Robinson, also was a trainer. She grew up with horses of all different breeds through the years and learned many different types of disciplines with horses. Charlene has a diverse back ground in training. She was raised in Idaho on a working cattle ranch. She learned to break and train horses, including mustangs, from a very young age. Her first official job was on the OX ranch, a huge working dude ranch located on the Cascade Mountains. She learned the art of breaking young colts at the age of 12 from some of the old cowboys on the ranch.

Growing up Charlene competed in many different horse events from Junior Rodeo Barrel Racing-Rodeo Queen pageants, Gymkhanas, Roping and Cutting, Hunter Jumper, English Pleasure and Equitation. From a young adult to the present she has focused more on dressage-based riding. Charlene became a Centered Riding Instructor after learning the importance of a balanced horse and rider in endurance competition. Charlene is a two-time national champion in the sport of endurance in 2003 and 2004. She has had many consecutive years in the regional standings, including 2006. Her current standing is 6th place Pacific Southwest. Charlene has nearly 8,000 endurance career miles to date. She has competed at International FEI levels and is a world class competitor. She is the top endurance trainer in Southern California.

Charlene's goal as a trainer is to see happy, successful riders and horses. Centered riding is the building block for any style of riding. Its focus is on form, balance, and comfort for both horse and rider.

Charlene has made many successful connections with horses and riders. She breaks and trains horses from the ground up. She give a huge emphasis on natural horsemanship, ground basics, sacking out, obstacles, line driving, etc. Her goal is to create a well-rounded bomb proof horse that is responsive, collected, balanced, and confident! She can help you reach your goals whatever they my be from gymkhana, pageants (Leona Valley and Antelope Valley contenders), Western pleasure, English equitation, hunt seat, competitive trail, trail trials, endurance and much more! She can help you do just about anything you want with a horse! She can also help you find a horse suitable for your level of riding.
